Frequently Asked Questions

What services does Logideals offer?

As a freight forwarding firm, Logideals moves goods from one place to another, mostly internationally. We act as intermediaries between shippers and transport providers/carriers, coordinating and managing all aspects of the shipping process, ensuring that goods arrive safely, on time and within budget.

Our core services usually include:

  Cargo booking and coordination

  Ocean, air, and land transportation

  Customs clearance and documentation

  Cargo insurance arrangements

  Warehousing and storage

  Cargo consolidation and deconsolidation

  Door-to-door or port-to-port delivery solutions

What types of cargo do you handle?

Logideals primarily handles general commercial cargo for FCL (Full Container Loads), LCL (Less than Container Load) and Airfreight shipments.

On a case to case basis, we can also handle hazardous goods and perishable goods requiring refrigeration, provided all mandatory documentation and compliance requirements are met in advance. Subject to evaluation by our commercial team, we may also ship personal effects for individuals. We invite you to reach out to discuss your shipping needs.

We do not handle goods prohibited by international shipping regulations.

What's the difference between LCL and FCL shipping for my goods?

FCL (Full Container Load) shipping is when a single shipper has enough cargo to fill in one entire container. The shipper pays freight for the full container, irrespective of whether it is fully loaded. This mode of shipment is more secure (less handling involved), works well for larger consignments, and offers better cost per unit for the importer.

LCL (Less Than Container Load) shipping involves multiple shippers sharing a container and paying only for the space their goods occupy. LCL is more economical for smaller consignments but may have slower transit times and increased handling risks.

Can Logideals help me consolidate cargo from different suppliers?

Definitely. We are actively developing our own consolidation services and are already open to co-loading opportunities. We collaborate with reliable and trusted partners from different regions who serve as liaison agents with different suppliers. This helps us to bring all your goods together and ship them in a simple, organised, and affordable way.

Which trade routes do you specialize in?

With our global network of agents, we handle worldwide shipments (for both imports and exports) but it’s also relevant to point out that Logideals has a very strong presence on the ASIA- Mauritius trade-lane particularly for FCL imports.

How are your freight rates calculated?

PRICING AND PROCESSES

Freight rates calculations depend on several factors, including:

  1. Cargo Volume of Weight: We calculate rates based on whichever is greater—your shipment’s actual weight or its volume.
  2. Mode of transportation:  Whether you’re shipping by sea, air, or land, each method comes with its own pricing structures
  3. Type of goods: Some cargo, like hazardous materials or refrigerated items, may need special handling, which can add to the total cost picture
  4. Origin and Destination of cargo: The distance between pickup and delivery points & routing complexity (e.g. how many transshipment ports involved) etc. may also impact the price.
  5. Container type: For Sea Freight, rates will also depend on the type of containers required to carry the cargo (Normal Dry Containers, Flat racks or even Open Tops)
  6. Seasonality and market demand: Freight rates can fluctuate due to seasonal peaks or supply and demand dynamics.
  7. Additional services: Customs clearance, insurance, warehousing, and handling fees can add to the total cost.

At Logideals, we understand that every shipment is unique. That’s why we take the time to fully understand your shipping needs and provide a tailored quote that makes sense—for your cargo, your timeline, and your budget.

What charges might not be included in initial quotes?

While we always aim for our offer to be as inclusive as possible, there may be other shipping related costs that are not included in the initial quote.

Among others, the most common among such charges are as follows:-

  1. Demurrage and Detention Charge
  2. Electricity Plug-in Charges for Refrigerated cargo
  3. Exact Port and Local charges at Origin and Destination ports
  4. Customs Duties and Taxes
  5. Insurance (If not requested initially)

How far in advance should I book ocean freight to Mauritius?

Depending on trade-lanes & seasonality, it is advisable to book 2-3 weeks prior to sailing date. This should allow for enough time to

  1. Coordinate with our origin agents
  2. Initiate booking and secure shipping space with carrier
  3. Complete all documentation and customs formalities.

At Logideals, we do our best to accommodate urgent shipments whenever possible. If you’re short on time, feel free to reach out. Our team will work with you to find the most adaptable solution for your shipping needs.

What documents do I need to prepare for customs clearance?

Customs & Documentation

To clear your cargo through Mauritian Customs, you’ll generally need the following documents:

  • Bill of Lading (B/L) or Air Waybill (AWB) – official transport document issued by the shipping line or airline
  • Commercial Invoice – shows details of the goods, their value, and terms of sale
  • Packing List – outlines how the cargo is packed and what each package contains
  • Import Permit or Licences – required only if the goods fall under regulated or restricted categories. Logideals may handle the same on your behalf.
  • Certificate of Origin – sometimes needed to confirm the country where the goods were manufactured
  • Freight and Insurance Invoices – if these costs aren’t already included in the commercial invoice
  • Customs Declaration Form – submitted online through the Mauritius Customs Management System (MCMS)

For certain types of goods, extra documents may be required—for example, health certificates, product safety data sheets (MSDS), or phytosanitary certificates for plant-based items.

At Logideals, we support you throughout the customs process and ensure that all required documentation is in place so that your cargo can be cleared efficiently and without unnecessary delays.

Can Logideals pay Customs Duties on behalf of customers?

Yes, Logideals can make arrangements to do so.

How do you track shipments in transit?

We use shipping line website tracking tools and stay in touch with our partners around the world to monitor each step in the shipment process. We’ll keep you informed with regular updates, especially if there are any changes or delays so that you always know where your cargo is and when to expect it.

What happens if my cargo is delayed at port?

Delays at port can happen for various reasons. It could be mainly due to port congestion, adverse weather conditions and/or vessel schedule changes (among others).

If this happens, Logideals takes immediate action to ‘manage the situation”

  • We inform you right away and explain the cause of such delays
  • We coordinate closely with port authorities, shipping lines, and clearing agents
  • We follow up regularly to speed up the release process
  • We may also assist in arranging temporary storage facilities (upon request)

Our priority is to keep you informed,  minimise the impact on your timeline & limit the risk of any third party charges which may arise in such situations.

Who will be our direct contact for shipment updates?

You will be assigned a dedicated contact person from our team who will follow your shipment from start to finish.

Your ‘go-to’ person will keep you updated on key milestones, advise you about any changes or delays, and be available to answer your questions at any stage of the shipping  process.

What makes Logideals different from other freight forwarders?

We’re here to take the complexity out of logistics, making it easy for you – so that you can focus on what matters most i.e. on your core business.
